Betdigital - A Detailed Look
Betdigital is a gaming software development company based near Abingdon, a small town in the county of Oxfordshire in the United Kingdom. Founded in 2011, the company is responsible for the employment of less than fifty people. Its primary focus is on producing software for real world gaming such as Fixed Odds Betting Terminals (FOBTs) and other land based cabinet games.
The company is also focused on developing the infrastructure on which online casinos are run. Indeed, their renowned ‘SystemX’ platform and ‘GRID’ game engine are used by many online casinos to power their games. Customers signed up for Betdigital services include some of the biggest names in both land based sports betting and online gaming. Commercial partners include the likes of Ladbrokes, William Hill, Bet 365 and Betfair.
It was Betdigital’s success at this twin pronged approach which brought it to the attention of the wider gaming industry. This acclaim resulted in the company being acquired in 2016 by the NYX Gaming Group. The actual price paid was dependent on future earnings, but was expected to reach a maximum of £25 million.
Both parties seemed delighted with the deal. Betdigital founder Heath Samples was no doubt more than satisfied with the return on his original investment, but he was also optimistic about the future prospects of his company under the new arrangement. He saw the opportunity to assist new owners NYX’s plans to expand their own platform, and also to utilise the investment and industry influence of the company to boost Betdigital’s own development plans. Meanwhile, NYX CEO Matt Davey saw the Oxfordshire based company’s expertise in the UK market as key for his company’s European expansion.
The corporate shenanigans don’t end there though. This is because Betdigital’s new parent company was itself acquired by the Las Vegas based industry behemoths Scientific Games in 2018. This means that the company currently sits under Scientific Games’ massive corporate umbrella. It continues to operate largely independently, with original founder Heath Samples continuing in his role as CEO for the foreseeable future.
The company continued to publish independent financial results until the end of 2018. In this final year, Betdigital boasted a total turnover of a little over £3 million for the financial year ending in December. This translated into a profit before tax figure of just over £1.3 million.
Bet Digital Games
This focus on software architecture and land based interests means that the company has relatively few games to show for its decade worth of efforts. Nevertheless, there are around a dozen different slots which you may find on your chosen online casino. These tend toward the nostalgic ‘classic’ end of the market, with fruit machine style games making up the majority of the Betdigital output. Titles include Fantastic Fruits, Turbo Fruits and Magic Multiplier Bar-X. Additional games include the Aztec themed City of Gold and the Emerald Isle themed Shamrock Surprise.
Many online casinos registered for the United Kingdom regulated market are likely to carry Betdigital slots, via their licencing of the Scientific Games group’s vast array of subsidiary software producers. So why not look out for their games at your chosen Trustly compatible casino.
